Leonardo DiCaprio Will Star As H.H. Holmes In New Serial Killer TV Series

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have teamed up to tell the story of America’s first serial killer – Dr. Henry Howard Holmes. According to Variety, they will both executive produce the TV series ‘The Devil in the White City’ for Hulu.

Based on the best-selling book “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America” by Erik Larson, the official synopsis reads: “An architect works to build up the 1893 Worlds Fair, while a serial killer uses the fair to attract and kill women.”

DiCaprio acquired the rights to develop the book nearly a decade ago and the long-standing rumors were that he would take on the role of Holmes himself. Now, the Academy Award-winning actor has made it ‘IMDB Official’ and his updated acting credits reveal that he is set to star as the twisted serial killer.

Who Was Dr. H. H. Holmes?

In 1893, Holmes built a hotel in Chicago which was nothing less than a giant, elaborate torture chamber, a death trap in which rooms contained a uniquely cruel and unusual way to die.

He eventually confessed to 27 murders, yet the actual body count could have been up to 200. In life and in death, his victim’s bodies were his playthings.

Famously he was quoted as saying: “I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to sing – I was born with the ‘Evil One’ standing as my sponsor beside the bed where I was ushered into the world, and he has been with me since.”

Holmes is described by John Barlow Martin in his essay The Master of the Murder Castle as “Young, good-looking, glib, he mesmerized businessmen and captivated and seduced pretty young women, at least two of whom he married bigamously.”
