It’s official – Quentin Tarantino’s controversial Charles Manson project is going ahead and IMDB has updated the working title as “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.”
Both Leonardo Di Caprio and Brad Pitt will star as Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth; a TV actor and his stunt double who embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry during the Charles Manson murders in 1969 Los Angeles.
According to a statement released by Sony Pictures, Tarantino revealed the film will be “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. Both (leading actors) are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise any more. But Rick has a very famous next door neighbour…Sharon Tate.”
Actress Sharon Tate and husband Roman Polanski
The director last worked with Di Caprio on Django Unchained (2012) and with Pitt on Inglorious Basterds (2009). It’s rumoured that other stars Tarantino is hoping to get on board are Al Pacino, Tom Cruise, Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence.
An official pending release date of August 9th, 2019, has been set. The date is significant as this will be the 50th anniversary of the day the bodies of Sharon Tate and her friends were discovered at 10050 Cielo Drive…

Over his year 25-year long career, Tarantino has directed just nine features – or eight if you count ‘Kill Bill: Volume ‘ and ‘Kill Bill: Volume 2’ as one film. True crime fans will be interested in knowing what the Academy Award winner will do with the shocking story of the cult murders.
On the night of August 8th, 1969, murderous cult leader Charles Manson gave fatal instructions to his followers – they were to go to “that house where (record producer Terry) Melcher used to live” and “totally destroy everyone in (it), as gruesome as you can.”
Charles “Tex” Watson then took followers Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian, and Patricia Krenwinkel to commit one of the most gruesome murders Los Angeles had ever witnessed. Amongst the victims was eight-months-pregnant actress Sharon Tate, the wife of director Roman Polanski. They were stabbed to death, their bodies discovered the following morning, tied with rope and covered in blood.
In 1971, Manson was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and sentenced to life in prison. Had the death penalty not been abolished – he would have likely have faced execution.
