People are outraged after viewing bodycam footage which showed nurse Alex Wubbels manhandled, dragged and arrested by Detective Jeff Payne. Wubbels can be clearly heard screaming, “You’re hurting me” on the footage as she appears distressed when dragged outside.
The officers decided to make the arrest at Salt Lake City hospital after she refused to take blood from a truck driver who had been involved in a traffic accident. The patient, William Gray, is a reserve police officer in Rigby, Idaho. A driver, who was fleeing the police, slammed into the side of Gray’s truck causing it to burst into flames on July 26th.
The University of Utah, where Wubbels graduated, stated that she acted according to the policy as blood can only be handed over without a patient’s consent if they are under arrest or the police have a warrant – neither of which was the case in this incident.
Police spokeswoman Christina Judd said, “There’s a strong bond between fire, police, and nurses because they all work together to help save lives, and this caused an unfortunate rift that we are hoping to repair immediately.”
