French police have detained 17 people who are considered suspects in 36-year-old Kim Kardashian’s robbery that took place on October 2nd last year. Those arrested are aged between 23 and 73 years old and can be held for up to 96 hours for questioning.
CNN news reported earlier today that the detained suspects are part of a well-known criminal group and they were picked up in Paris as well as the eastern suburbs of Raincy and Vincenne in a police operation that started at 6 a.m this morning. Further reports claimed that DNA evidence left at the crime scene led them to make the arrests. A further suspect was also detained in Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes, which is in the south of the country.
Kardashian’s career has been on hold since she stepped out of the limelight following the incident. The reality TV star was robbed at gunpoint inside the apartment where she was staying – shortly after her bodyguard had been dismissed for the night. Her husband, rapper Kanye West, and two young children were not present at the time.
According to reports, the robbers threatened the concierge, accessed her room, restrained her with duct tape and held a gun to her head as she begged for her life. The thieves escaped with more than $10 million worth of jewelry and Kardashian managed to free her hands, remove her gag and scream for help.
During a tearful interview for the upcoming season premiere of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, she revealed that she believed “(The robbers were) going to shoot me in the back.” She recalled thinking, “There’s no way out. It makes me so upset to think about it.”
Kardashian dropped a lawsuit last year after US celebrity gossip site MediaTakeOut issued an apology for stating she had faked being robbed at gunpoint at a luxury apartment for publicity.
The case continues.
