10. Carlo Gambino
Carlo Gambino, head of the Gambino crime family, and one of the most feared New York-based gangsters, was convicted of tax evasion but has never spent a day in jail. Gambino was famous for the notorious ‘cement jacket’ that found an adversary cemented into a basement floor. Gambino was known to never become agitated, even in the face of disrespect. Instead he would exact his revenge later on, in a brutal and sinister fashion.
Despite having an organised crime FBI van parked outside his home, along with internal bugging, and lip readers, he continued to conduct one of the most lucrative mob businesses. He died of old age in 1976.
