10 Brave Victims Who Escaped Their Kidnappers

Each year, thousands of people are abducted, while often the kidnapper is someone who is close to the victim, there are also many cases where complete strangers have taken people out of sight. Recently, amazing breakthrough stories have appeared in the press where women have spent years in captivity only to finally be free – its a modern day miracle against all odds.

In these following miraculous cases, the brave victims have been able to break free from their kidnappers and lived to tell the tale.

10. Colleen Stan

Colleen was only 20-years-old when she was abducted, on her way to a friends party, she had no mode of transport so decided to hitchhike. After a couple with a baby offered her a ride, she thankfully accepted, not realizing the fate that awaited her.

Pulling onto a dirt road, her head was forced into a specially designed box which wasn’t removed until she found herself at the house of Cameron Hooker. He and his wife, Janice Hooker, then kept Colleen as a sex slave, punching bag and ‘pet’ for a total of 7 years between 1977 and 1984 before Cameron’s wife rang the police out of jealousy, after Cameron said he wanted to have a baby with Colleen. Cameron was sentenced to 104 years imprisonment

9. Jaycee Dugard

During the summer months of 1991, Jaycee Dugard was visiting South Lake Tahoe when she was kidnapped and held captive for 18 years by couple Philip and Nancy Garrido. Kept in their backyard, they had given her a new name of Alyssa, and told her that there were no news reports of her disappearance or any interest in people trying to locate her. Repeatedly sexually assaulted, she had given birth to two of Philips children who were also kept in captivity.

Philip was arrested for minor crimes, and after a routine background check by his parole officer something seemed suspicious. Police then arrived at the Garrido home to carry out a further investigation which led them to discover Jaycee and her two children, then aged 14 and 17.
