6. Wu-Tang Clan
There are a lot of rappers who like to boast about their links to organised crime, but it’s a known fact that some of these artists aren’t as ‘connected’ as they like to think. One exception, however, is the Wu-Tang Clan, who have repeatedly been associated with the Gambino crime family.
It’s alleged that the Wu-Tang Clan had always respected the Gambinos while the group members were growing up, and when the award-winning act was still trying to make it big in New York City, the rappers partnered with the crime syndicate to run weapons and sell drugs.
5. Liza Minelli
Liza Minelli is another celebrity on the list whose alleged ties with organised crime will likely come as a surprise to most people. The actress and singer is an icon amongst the gay community and is best known for her Oscar-winning performance in 1972’s Cabaret.
Minelli’s connection to the mob comes via Gianni Russo. The actor played the role of Carlo Rizzi in The Godfather, but he was an errand boy and mob associate for crime boss Frank Costello before his acting career took off.
Minelli was supposedly in a relationship with Russo in the 1970s, despite the mobster-turned-actor still having strong connections to the mafia. Russo even acted as a mediator between the producers of The Godfather and Mob boss Joe Colombo, who had threatened to shut down the film as he thought it would slander Italian-Americans.
