8. Debbie Reynolds
Most people will recognise veteran actress, singer and dancer Debbie Reynolds from her roles in Singin’ in the Rain and as Grace Adler’s mother in Will and Grace. She certainly doesn’t look like someone who has mafia ties, but according to several sources, including the Mafia Information website, looks can be deceiving.
Reynolds reportedly met Marajen Stevick Chinigo, the ex-husband of Chicago mobster Johnny Rosselli, at a party many years ago. Chinigo and Reynolds apparently formed a friendship, leading to the actress’ long-time links with certain crime families. She’s also been performing in Las Vegas for many years – a city still famed for its mob connections. When asked if she ever feared for her life while in Vegas, she replied that only those who “needed killing” should be afraid.
7. Elizabeth Hurley
While it must be stressed that Liz Hurley’s connection to organised crime is minimal, it’s still a big surprise to discover that the Austin Powers star did have a link to the mafia, however slight.
Hurley’s introduction to the mob came via then-boyfriend Steve Bing, who worked on a movie with Dominick “Donnie Shacks” Montemarano – the former captain of New York’s Colombo crime family. Despite knowing that he spent time in prison for extortion and racketeering, Hurley formed a relationship with Montemarano and the pair were even seen out in public together holding hands.
Despite appearances, there was apparently no romantic connection between the pair; not only did the couple have a 32-year age gap, but Montemarano liked to invest in movies, and as a producer, Hurley often needed to raise finance for her films.
