7. José Figueroa Agosto Buried $100 Million In Puerto Rico
In 1999, José Figueroa Agosto was serving a 209-year sentence for murder when he escaped (for a second time) from prison in Puerto Rico. He fled to the Dominican Republic, where he moved around using several different identities and continued drug trafficking for ten years. Following a tip-off in 2009, his apartment was raided and police found $4 million in cash. Figueroa Agosto fled back to Puerto Rico after apparently paying $1 million to a military official to help him return.
He hid in San Juan, Puerto Rico for ten months before he was arrested by the DEA, FBI and US Marshals. At the time of his arrest he was the most wanted fugitive by Puerto Rican and Dominican Republic authorities.
Police were never able to uncover where he had kept his financial stash from drug dealing which was estimated to be around $100 million. Well known for his ability to break out of prison, there are rumours that he buried the $100 million in a secret location, somewhere in Puerto Rico, ready for his next escape.
